Писал на cwmantis на счет String-контролов, которые никак не дизаблились(CW6.1EE),вот что ответили:

Tested with C6.1 CR. Is your problem that Disable() doesn't make it look like a disabled prompt? The string is disabled in the sense it doesn't take any more events, and it is toned down when no font color. With color it is not toned, so I guess there is a bug there.
FWIW: There is a difference between prompts and string in that prompts can have an accesskey to tell the cursor to go to the field following the prompt. A string is primarily for display only (and event:drop)

Понял, что баг скорее всего, зависит от цвета шрифта, дальше смутно, может кто переведет, ради интереса???

А дальше как раз неинтересно, разъясняют, чем промпт от стринг отличается.

Протестировали с C6.1 CR. У вас проблема с тем, что Disable() не меняет внешний вид промпта на запрещенный? Строка запрещена в том смысле, что она не получает к-либо событий и она затонирована если для нее не указан цвет шрифта. С указанным цветом шрифта она не затонирована, поэтому я думаю, что это глюк.

Кстати, STRINGи и в C55 не дизэйблятся (embossed effect)...
я всегда для этого пользовался PROMPTами.
